The Sanguine Extrovert
When a Sanguine temperament person enters a room the energy level rises at least two degrees and a quiet tone in a group can suddenly turn into lively laughter and chatter. Sanguines have an appealing personality; they are talkative and usually are the life of the party. They possess a good sense of humor.
They have a memory for color. Their speech patterns are lively and colorful as well. They are demonstrative and expressive speakers. They have a changeable disposition and shift with the social atmospheric pressure whenever needed. They can be almost childlike by being cheerful, inquisitive, enthusiastic and energetic.
As a friend and a parent, they can make home life fun. A Sanguine parent will often be the favorite parent of choice with your children's friends. You can always tell there is a Sanguine parent in the house when the kids in the neighborhood, along with all dogs and cats, are waiting at the door for the Sanguine parent to come out and play.
They have the gift of turning disasters into humor and can be the circus master when put into the role. They are quick to volunteer and their creative thinking allows for fresh ideas and fun activities. They make friends easily. A Sanguine is addicted to people and needs to have people around them almost all the time. They thrive on compliments. They like spontaneity. They like flashy and dramatic entrances. They rarely hold a grudge when things do not go their way and they are quick to apologize if they suspect they have hurt your feelings.
The Sanguine personality can forget commitments or obligations they have made. They do not mean to forget; their minds are always in a bit of a frenzy with so much activity. They make poor listeners, because they cannot stay quiet long enough. They would much rather talk than listen and they like to be front and center stage. They often have difficulty holding a confidence, so be hesitant about telling them any dangerous secrets. They do not mean to reveal a confidence; they often simply speak before they think.
They have difficulty prioritizing and are easily distracted. They like commotion. They are uncomfortable in being alone and just being quiet is not part of their nature.
Recognize that a Sanguine tendency is having difficulty in completing a task. A Sanguine needs to work with another who can keep them focused. A melancholy temperament is the perfect working partner for a Sanguine if you want a creative, but finished, product. The two temperaments may drive each other crazy, but neither of them will ever be bored. Besides, a Sanguine is probably one of the few temperaments that can make a melancholy belly laugh!
In conflict, be mindful that the Sanguine will really try to work towards resolution with the best of intentions, but they may not be able to follow through on some commitments they make. Remember that a Sanguine rarely does this out of evil intent. They may need to be gently reminded not to take on more responsibility than they can realistically handle. They sometimes need a gentle dose of realism, but expect them to pout if they do not get their way. They can be very persistent. The Sanguine thrives best in a positive environment. They do not respond well to complaining. In working through conflict with a Sanguine, praise and affirmation along with a dose of realistic expectations is your best bet.
Realize they enjoy variety and flexibility. If they forget an appointment, remember that they do not mean to drive you crazy or hurt you by being irresponsible. Do not hesitate to remind a Sanguine of an appointment or a commitment so they do not forget. Sticky notes in unexpected places work well.
One more thing, if you want to please a Sanguine, bring them presents. They love new toys. It does not take a lot to keep them amused as long as it is fresh and new, moves quickly and makes noise.
Remember that they can be emotionally driven and their mood can be controlled by outward circumstances. They can become over-reactive and say things they do not mean and then regret later. Be as quick to forgive them as they will be to forgive you. Enjoy being around them. They are genuinely a great deal of fun!
