What We Do - Services
Parents Forever Program
The Parents Forever Program offers support to families in transition of divorce and separation. The curriculum is appropriate for parents who are in the midst of divorce proceedings, struggling with co-parenting issues that are post-decree, and parents who are parenting children apart. It is a program that meets all requirements mandated by the Minnesota Legislature.
You can attend the class in the comfort of your own home no matter what geographical area in Minnesota you live.
We offer the program online in a virtual class setting with a live facilitator. Parents have access to interactive conversations with an experienced facilitator. You can converse with other parents online under the direction of the facilitator. There are no special downloads or computer knowledge needed. However, a headset can be helpful.
Parents that have taken the class in the interactive online format have been very responsive. This format of providing the Parents Forever Program reduces barriers to court required divorce education by making it easier for parents to access the educational resources they need.
Mediation Services
Education is one piece of the puzzle in achieving family peace for divorced or separating parents. Mediation and other intervention services may also be needed to bring parenting and financial issues of divorce and separation to a close. It s not unusual for parents to need assistance through mediation. Mediation is a conflict resolution process facilitated by a trained third-party neutral.
We have mediation services available to parents that need assistance in peacemaking services.
Mediation focused on developing solutions to the challenges, and meeting the needs of parents and children, can bring long lasting harmony in the home environments of children. When parents develop a communication process to share the needs, lives and activities of children, meeting the needs of the family as a whole, family peace is not only desirable -- it can be a reality.
Mediation puts decision making powers into the hands of the ones that know the needs of their children best -- the parents. Resolving the financial issues and asset allocation of divorce through mediation can save thousands of dollars in litigation costs.
Family mediation, particularly in the areas of parental conflict over children due to separation and divorce, brings peaceful resolution for issues regarding parenting time, custody and divorce.
Online Dispute Resolution (ODR)
In special cases where parents are not able to attend mediation because of geographical distance or if there is a history of first time domestic violence, we offer online dispute resolution as an alternative mediation process. The online dispute resolution process is more limited in scope than mediation services in a traditional format.
It works best for developing safe exchanges and parenting time schedules and uncomplicated divorce negotiations. It is an intervention implemented through a trained facilitator, a computer, and conferencing through VoIP or conference telephone. It is not the recommended format for mediation intervention. However, it is available if the traditional mediation format is not a viable option for the parties to a dispute.
Parenting Time Expediter
We offer parenting time expediter services. A parenting time expediter is usually appointed by the Court and plays the role of coordinating parenting time, exchanges, interpretation of parenting plans and implementation of court ordered parenting time. Our mediator and expediter received her training at the Loyola College in Chicago through the AFCC (Association of Family Conciliation Courts) which is a national organization providing advanced specialty training in custody evaluations and parenting coordination.
Our expediter also has training in family dynamics, crisis intervention, family group conferencing, and advanced parenting expediter training in managing conflict with mental health disorders as well as advanced mediation alternative dispute resolution processes.
