Knowledge Helps!

Lessening the effects and making informed decisions requires knowledge.  Do not limit yourself to only one source of information. The web offers a number of excellent basic educational resources.

While knowledge is power, before proceeding with any legal action, we strongly recommend that you at least counsel with a financial consultant or attorney before proceeding with any legal action that may have tax or legal consequences.

Court administration, mediators or co parenting educators are not allowed to provide legal advice. We recommend that you retain an attorney for divorce proceedings involving custody, division of pension and real estate, large business assets, or other potentially complicated issues.  You may also choose to hire an attorney on an hourly basis rather than pay a retainer fee. There are free attorney services for low income parents through Legal Aid and the Volunteer Attorney Program.

Mediation processes lessen litigation cost, so the earlier you enter a mediation process the more you will save.  However, it is wise to consult an attorney before entering a mediation process so you are prepared to make informed decisions.

There are many excellent attorneys in our area that can offer information and guidance.  Please check your local listings for attorneys.  Choose an attorney that specializes in the area of family law.

We offer services to parents in conflict over their children.  We provide emergency services to parents at no cost.  We will serve as an intervener for parents when there is a domestic abuse situation to help parents arrange safe exchanges and parenting time schedules for the sake of children and reduce the chance of recurrence.  We provide these services for low income and poverty parents without cost.  We also provide reduced fee services to parents with low or poverty income for education and mediation.

Nonprofits will be hard-hit by the downturn in the economy.  Funding dollars will be greatly affected. You can help us make peace in the home environments of children by sponsoring a parent with a tax deductible gift of any amount or by visiting one of these two search engines.

At no cost to you, you can also help us by visiting one of these websites that give to nonprofit charities when people visit their website or search engine.

www.GoodSearch.com is a search engine with a unique social mission.  It is powered by Yahoo so you get great search results.  Each time you search GoodSearch.com they will make a donation to your charity of choice.  More than 72,000 nonprofits and schools are now participating in this program! Mediation Works North is one of them.

When you go to www.GoodShop.com and visit or purchase a product from one of their online retailers, GoodSearch will contribute a percentage to your favorite charity.
